The 80 year old Wheeling Civic Garden Club has terminated its existence. A recent photo in the newspaper showed the director standing in front of bookshelves full of garden books. I wondered what would happen to the books, and a few days later we bought them for Vigilant Books! This means that the largest part of the current Vigilant collection concerns gardening, from the professional and academic point of view to the backyard green-thumber wannabe.
We also have accumulated hundreds of books about needle-art, which Vera is passionate about, so that will be another strong part of our collection. But don't think that gardening and needlework will be all Vigilant will have on our shelves! We already have lots of novels, astronomy and space (my interest), history, the Civil War, and many other topics. The goal is to have a wide selection of quality books, so that unanticipated discoveries will be common.
We now have about 2,000 to 3,000 of the 10,000 books needed before we open. We will be happy to buy (but we can't pay much!) good collections, and we accept donations - thanks for the recent ones that we have received! Mostly we will accumulate books by offering store credit useful for buying books from us!
